Yo Yo YO !! [28 Oct 2006|06:44pm]

[ mood | Chippy!! ]

Hay!! How's it goin!? Lol, I've been searching and searching for just the right communities that could help me in my conquest... okay, here's the deal>

I, yes I, have a problem with writer's block, and so sometimes, while I try to focus on this one fic, my head just keeps on piling it with new ideas for other fics/fandoms. So for now, I'm goin to put them all down in this book. I have quite a few =3. and so, I was wondering- If anyone would like to be inspired to do a fic of their own with my storylinses (or you are REALLY bored and just feel like writing whatever) in it. =3. WHY and WHAT do I get out of it? I would get to read my ideas in someone's, most likley, better thought out brain then mine =3.

I dont really care if you dont mention that you got the idea from me, but it would be appreciated. So if you're interested then just contact me by e-mail- tewhetu15@hotmail.com

Thank you!!

Introductions? [05 Apr 2006|02:12am]

I love it when intelligence is applied to any genre of literature, and more so to the genres I LOVE. This is the perfect writer's community (well, for yaoi fiction at least), because it obviously isn't afraid to tell the hard truth. Writing is a skill, not a gift.

Okay, so here's the reason that brought me to searching all the shounen-ai related communities and journals lj has to offer: be warned, it *is* an advertisement. But for shounen-ai roleplay.

hey all [12 Sep 2005|12:18pm]

I just joined and thought I'd air my pet peeves with the slash/yaoi fandoms I inhabit.

1. TERRIBLE CHARACTERISATION!!!!! My god, people. GW boys are child soldiers, trained to kill. The day that Heero proposesn is the day the world collapses on itself. Characterisation is fucking IMPORTANT! Guys are allowed to be cranky, angsty, violent, and not lovey dovey.

2. HORRIBLE NICKNAMES! This is for you, Spike/Xander people. Please STOP making Spike call Xander horrid, horrid nicknames, like "Xan-pet".

3. GIRL BASHING! Get over it. Chicks rock, and not all of them are there to prevent the hot boys from making out. Unless the girl is a complete bitch in the canon, why make her into the shrew?

4. RANDOM ABUSE! Honestly, if you can't come up with a decent reason for a character's moodiness, why not make them a sufferer of abuse? Some of the best and worst fics I have read have involved abuse of various sorts. At best it is soul wrenching, and painful. At worst, it's a cheap, nasty way to make a character vulnarable.

5.SHIPPER WARS! Oh. my. god. Get the hell over it. I read specific pairings, just like everyone else. Some pairings I think of as stupid. Does that mean that I waste my time having screaming matches over the net? NO. F'rinstance, I really don't like 1x2, or Spike/Angel. Does that mean that I flame and abuse those that do? Hell no. The only time I have ever flamed someone based on pairings was because of character assassination. I regret it now, but I still stand by that.

6. SPELLING AND CHAT SPEAK! If grammer, spelling and sentence construction elude you, do NOT write fanfic of any sort, I implore you. That is all.

Just 'cause I'm the "new girl" doesn't mean I'm a Mary-Sue! [18 Apr 2005|11:35pm]

[ mood | contemplative ]

Hi, I just joined today... I'm a pretty sane yaoi/shounen-ai fan (also yuri/shoujo-ai and het fan). I can be pretty rabid in private, but online and in front of my friends, I'm usually the reserved one of the bunch.

I don't have much to say that's been already said now, but... why do most yaoi/shounen-ai authors (especially the YGO and Gundam Wing authors) put more than one couple in their fic? I know at times that could work, but when you see so many characters, and they're all paired together and nothing really happens except the lovey-dovey-ness of each one of them and the bashing of the hated character (male or female), it looks like the author just drew two names out of a hat multiple times to prevent so-and-so from dating anyone...

Hey everyone [16 Dec 2004|11:40pm]

[ mood | blah ]

Just joined yesterday, and now I shall come to make a post. ^__^

I can already start off with several problems in the yaoi fandom that are really annoying me...

1. Teeny-bopper-fangirls. The ones who go "omfg!!111111111eleven11111 yumz i needz 2 c me 2 bishiez boyz start get n it on NOWZ!!!11111 dat it sow to2ly HAWT!1111one11eleven". I hate it when I get reviews like this for my fanfictions...

2. The "death to het, yuri, & bishoujo!" thing... I just started getting into Yu Gi Oh, and notced Anzu was the only real main gal character. I thought she seemed cool. Right when I start getting into the fandom, I notice there's an ongoing-war of 'omg Anzu must DIIIIEEEE she can't HAVE Yugi omfg no11111111!!11'. I notice that's also going on with Relena in Gundam Wing and Rinoa in FF8 pretty bad... Seriously, I think hating bishoujo because you don't like seeing them paired with the guys is rather dumb... Also the het-hating, when tons of these fans ARE straight girls. I think a lot of them have this "If I can't have him; no GIRL can!" thing going on or something... I mean... they're not real... they need to face facts and get over it. x__x;;;

3. The "Seme vs. Uke" wars... Oh GODS this is annoying... If Squall is seme with Seifer in a fic, the world is not going to end! I'm suddenly seeing these wars going on everywhere I go. I don't see WHY it matters... What other people write doesn't have to effect what you read/write/like, so why flame about it? In a couple of the Jin/Hwoarang Tekken fics I wrote, I was flamed both times by people saying "OMG my hwoarang was UKE in this he is only SEME and Jin UKE!!!111one" Good grief... I'm also seeing this going on with a lot of the yaoi pairings in Inuyasha. Some people act like hell has come to earth when Inuyasha is seme or even ACTS seme in a fic.

But okay... I'll stop ranting now... It just annoys me because I love yaoi so much, just like yuri and het, yet I see how the fandom's being labeled that we're all bishoujo-hating teeny-boppers, when that's not true.

Hi! I'm new to your :3 community and I have a rant:

Why does no one switch their pair's positions?!!? In real life, the uke is not always the uke; they're on top, too! Usually it's a 50/50 sort of switch; the uke is only uke half the time.

I don't know if that bothers anyone else... but it bugged me. :3 Hello to all.

The "Height Rule" [16 Sep 2004|10:13am]

[ mood | hungry ]

Someone mentioned this in a thread on yaoi_rants, so I thought I'd bring it up here.

Why is it so important that we know how tall or short either one of the romantic leads is in a yaoi fic? Why are some authors compelled to put in such indicators as the word "up", as in, "he looked up into his eyes"?

Even worse, why do some fanauthors go to the lengths of flaunting canon to make the uke shorter than the seme? Such is the case with Cid and Vincent in FF7-- canonically, Vincent is four inches taller than Cid (according to the game manual), but since he's the uke in that fan-created pairing, he must be depicted as shorter!

Unless it is an absolute necessity (when describing children or certain types of animals, for instance), height is, IMHO, one of those factors that should be left up to the imagination. It's a holdover from fiction with het pairings and general gender stereotypes where men are typically taller than women. The height thingie in yaoi is just another seme/uke device, that subconsciously feminizes the latter half.

Just my thoughts...

(cross-posted to yaoi_rants; apologies if you're seeing this twice)

mmm, tastes like first posting [14 Aug 2004|01:05pm]

[ mood | curious ]

Hey, all. Stumbled across this place via a link in fanficrants, spent a couple of minutes burbling happily over its very existence, and decided, hey, if the smart fits...

Anyhow. Not quite a complaint, but hoping to open stuff up to discussion, here.

Anyone else think yaoi fic needs to slow down?

I've noticed that my personal pairing trend--het, m/m, or f/f--tends towards couples who don't always seem, in canon, to be at a promising starting point. The whole appeal of those pairings, for me at least, is that they'd take a very long time to eventually gravitate to a position of being comfortable with one another, with any number of possible ways available for them to connect. Thus, to make a really stupid metaphor, fic about them would have to be like a Broadway musical: setup at the beginning, and several hours of song, dance, and working-through of psychological issues before you hit the big finale with the kiss at the end.

Unfortunately, a lot of awesome pairings get cheated out of the song-and-dance, and skip straight from setup to big finale. Not just in the fanfiction.net-type-drek--which is going to be around until the end of everything, and is comparatively easy to ignore--but by otherwise smart writers. It's pretty frustrating; vignettes and woohoo-brief-hot-encounter one-shots aren't bad, but dangit, sometimes it is all about the frickin' journey, you know?

Any fellow gripes/suggestions as to how to encourage a little more song-and-dance/jokes about Entirely New Yaoi Musicals? ^_~

A rant from me. . . [08 Aug 2004|11:32pm]

[ mood | aggravated ]

Why do a lot (and I'm not meaning *all,* because I personally know at least four WxV/VxW or MidxWolf/WolfxMid writers who aren't like this) of Trigun yaoi writers dismiss canon het, especially WolfwoodxMilly?

I'm posting this rant because I've seen a lot of stuff posted (in reviews and author notes) at the Pit of Voles basically saying how much they hate WolfwoodxMilly. Some of the actions I've seen fic writers take to avoid this pairing are: crossing over mangaverse so it doesn't happen, writing that Milly called Vash into the room and watched them, writing that Wolfwood only slept with Milly to have a baby for himself and Vash. . .*screams*

This honestly annoys me beyond belief. I *will not* read a yaoi fic by an author who makes a point of either slamming Milly or denying that there was *anything* between her and Wolfwood. Nor do I much like fics by writers that somehow make Vash entirely gay because it's IMHO OOC.

The one note I'd like to make to these squealing fangirls is that bisexuality exists. There is NO reason why Wolfwood can't love Milly and still have been in a relationship with Midvalley at some point. There is no reason why Wolfwood can't love both Vash and Milly. And there is no reason why Vash has to not have any interests in women to love Wolfwood.

That brings me to the second rant. Crying ukes in Trigun yaoi. NO. >< Legato may be an uke, but he is definitely not the "crying uke" like the infamous Shuichi Shindou. Even worse are the writers that totally characterize either Vash or Wolfwood as "crying ukes."

I can see Vash being kind of like that when he's on a low mood swing or something. . .or maybe with Knives when they're younger if you're into twincest, but NOT all the time. >< And Wolfwood. . .is definitely no crying uke, not for a second. ><

My name is Cass, and I'm a smart guylover.

Or a lover of smart guys.

Or maybe a lover of smart guylove.

My point is, I enjoy roleplaying, writing and reading about believable and realistic (within reason, at least) characters, situations and pairings. Het, slash, it makes little difference to me as long as it's well done.

What I would like to rant about today is a phenomenon that I'm sure we, as smart guylovers, are all familiar with.

This is, of course, the Little Girly Uke Boy.Collapse )

Hiya. [05 Jul 2004|06:43am]

[ mood | cold ]

I'm new. Gosh, I always take too long to find and join these great communities ^^;

Consensual Yaoi has always been my favorite genre. Not saying I'm not a fan of het and yuri pairings, I just find yaoi to be the most interesting. Is it just me, or does it seem like more rabid yaoi fans are bashing het pairs rather then the other way around these days? It just seems that way to me for some reason. Maybe it's because I don't hang around the het part of fandoms often so I don't know what their view is entirely.

One fandom I was once part of really scares me now. Has anyone checked out the DBZ one lately? A lot of people have been leaving that one and I don't blame them. Whatever rabid fangirl tendencies I used to have that I hate admitting to have had went away along with my intrest in DBZ a long while back. I don't know if in yaoi whether the characters are more OOC or bashed. Hell, even the most popular characters like Vegeta and Goku may as well be hated. I've seen them tourchered in god awful ways. You know, I actually belived Furiza raped Vegeta for real at a time since that plot was in basically every DBZ yaoi fic. I didn't know anime well at all at the time, and I've still got plenty to learn. If I truely thought that was accurate would some others think so? I shudder to think. I hardly think Toriyama intended that. Sure he's a bit of a perv but I don't think he'd have the guts to go that far.

Well, that's my rant of the day. My next one is most likely to be GW, it always ends up being GW *flips out 1x2x1-Relena Fan! flag* Later.

I made a banner...

If anyone wants to use it, feel free.

I plan to make more on other issues surrounding our yaoi/slash fandoms. So far, the topics I have planned are:
-hatred of female characters who "get in the way" of pairings
-the weak and feminine uke
-the cruel and abusive seme
-rape is not sexy/romantic
-abuse is not sexy/romantic
-really poorly written yaoi sex and common mistakes involving male body parts and male sexual functions

I need suggestions for:
*more topics
*characters or pairings who would work for the above topics

Hope it's safe to introduce myself here... [29 May 2004|07:40pm]

[ mood | nervous ]

Hi, I'm an anime and book fan, 37 years old and living in California... For a long time I didn't really like yaoi or shounen ai (no I'm not here to talk about that at all) but now I'm starting to get into it. I'm looking for a safe place to admit stuff like that I still mostly like het (I know some people don't, and I'm certainly not about to talk about it here, but, well, I do), and that I get enough of ultra-bishounen in general after a while. (I do like some of them, I try to get beyond that and appreciate the character, but when I have to keep reminding myself that it's a guy it's hard to get beyond that for slash or other purposes).

I do like yuri a bit as well (though I realize this community isn't about that either), though I personally can't handle futanari (the girls with male parts thing).

My favorite pairings are actually those between men who are friends (first pairing I ever got into was the still-unpopular Jet/Spike from Cowboy Bebop) rather than men who are enemies. (I understand the appeal of the latter, and it does make for some cool fanarts, but I still prefer the former).

In general I tend to prefer milder shounen-ai type stuff, though I have read some really good NC-17 fanfics so I'm staring to expand my mind a bit.

Hope it's OK that I'm here, I know I may not exactly fit in... I'm certainly not here to talk about anything that would offend anyone.

A fun exercise... [28 May 2004|10:39pm]

[ mood | geeky ]

Not too long ago I began compiling a list of fanfiction cliches (see my original blog post here); I started this project with the idea of making it a regular part of my site. Anyway, I want to post the first completed draft of the list sometime next week when I update the fanfic I'm currently working on, and was wondering if anyone here has cliches to add. It can be about yaoi, yuri, fanon, mary sues, songfics-- as long as it relates to fanfic.

(some suggestions about where to cross-post this would also be helpful-- I plan on posting at marysues once I'm done here)

Well, Hi!

I'm new, and well, despite I'm bad about presentating myself, I'll just say, I'm Valy, 21, living in belgium (So, I have a rather good excuse for my lame english. ~_^)

And well. I hate fanpoodle, fangirls, and the list goes on.

Pro-yaoi, (but also het and yuri enjoyer) I write, draw and have fun. I also love sharing my opinions, and I'm cool, dont worry, I'll not throw rocks at those not sharing my tastes and opinions. ^_^

Well... Later!
